Final Results! January 14, 2020 Update

Congrats again to Andrew Lessner for winning this year’s bowl pool! Andrew is the first repeat winner (also having won in 2007) and he tied the record (held by Scott Mason in 2017/2018) for highest score with 30 out of 35 possible points.

Tony Chan claimed second place thanks to LSU’s victory and having the closest tiebreaker. Mike Gleason claimed third place with the next closest tiebreaker. Both Tony and Mike scored 28 points and got all the multi-point games correct to finish strong.

Brendan Galligan will get his money back for finishing last.

The average score this year was 21.9, which is the highest ever. Thanks everyone for playing!

Completed Game:

Final Scenarios – January 3, 2020 Update

Andrew Lessner has clinched the win in the bowl pool, but the final game on Monday, January 13th will decide who finishes in 2nd place and 3rd place.

If LSU wins….

  • Andrew Lessner wins the pool with 30 points
  • Three entries will be tied for second with 28 points. The closest tiebreaker (combined points scored in the LSU/Clemson game) will finish 2nd, and the next closest will finish 3rd.
    • Lauren Clark – tiebreaker = 56
    • Tony Chan – tiebreaker = 69.5
    • Mike Gleason – tiebreaker = 75
  • Brendan Galligan will finish in last place and get his money back.

If Clemson wins…

  • Andrew Lessner wins the pool with 27 points
  • Two entries will be tied for second with 26 points. The closest tiebreaker (combined points scored in the LSU/Clemson game) will finish 2nd, and the other will finish 3rd.
    • Jeff Parker – tiebreaker = 40
    • Kris Bisci – tiebreaker = 54
  • Brendan Galligan will finish in last place and get his money back.

We have a winner! January 2, 2020 Update

Congratulations to Andrew Lessner for winning this year’s bowl pool! Andrew led wire-to-wire, and clinched the victory with Georgia’s win in the Sugar Bowl last night. Andrew becomes the first repeat winner of the pool, having also won 13 years ago in 2007.

Some drama remains, as 5 entries are still in the running for 2nd and 3rd place, including Lauren Clark, Tony Chan, Mike Gleason, Jeff Parker, and Kris Bisci. The winning scenarios will be posted later today.

Happy New Year! January 1, 2020 Update

Finally some upsets in the bowls (much to the chagrin of Hokie fans), but Andrew Lessner continues to hold a firm grip on the lead with 23 out of 26 points despite two losses yesterday. Last year’s winner Xiaorong Lai and Stephanie Everett have moved into a tie for second place with 21 points, but ironically neither of them can pass Andrew because their remaining picks are similar to Andrew’s. Nevertheless, they are both in strong contention to finish in the money.

By my calculations, five entries are still mathematically alive to win going into the New Year’s Day games – Andrew Lessner, Kris Bisci, Tony Chan, Kylie Snyder, and Jeff Parker. But plenty of entries can finish in the top 3, so it will be an interesting day with 4 games and 6 points up for grabs.

December 31, 2019 Update

Andrew Lessner has expanded his lead with four more correct picks on Monday, scoring an incredible 21 of 22 possible points so far. The 2007 Bowl Pool champion is certainly in the driver’s seat to be the first repeat champion in the 17 year recorded history of the pool, but there are still 13 points up for grabs, so nothing is assured yet. Next up, four games on New Year’s Eve.

December 29, 2019 Update

Andrew Lessner continues to lead the pool, thanks to Clemson’s dramatic come-from-behind victory in the Fiesta Bowl last night. Andrew got all four correct Saturday and has 16 of 17 points, one ahead of Jim Burnett, who currently sits alone in second place. But with all the favorites winning on Saturday, a lot of entries are right on their heels.

The bowls take a day off on Sunday for the NFL, but there’s a busy week ahead with 4 games on Monday, 4 games on Tuesday, and 4 games on Wednesday.
